Mealworms are the larvae of the Darkling Beetle, Tenebrio molitor, and they will attract a wide variety of birds.
These little critters provide excellent nutrition, are rich in protein (average approx. 50%) and high in fat (average approx. 28%).
These larvae are higher in protein content than calciworms. They are a fantastic supplement for growing and busy birds.
Feed them all year round, as a complimentary feed source in addition to offering a variety of seeds and suet. This will provide a balanced and nutritious diet for your birds. Soak the mealworms in some water in the spring and summer months to provide extra moisture and to soften them for younger birds. Mix a handful of dry mealworms with feeder mixes or table/ground mixes for extra nutritional value.
